Serge Balzan from Bad Ragaz gives the following tip for removing iron filings from magnets:
"Whoever has tried to remove iron filings from a magnet knows what a painstaking job this can be. However, there is a simple solution:
1. Drip candle wax onto a piece of paper.
2. Knead the wax while it is still warm.
3. Once the wax has cooled a bit, press it against the magnet. The filings will stick to the wax. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all filings are removed from the magnet.
4. The final step is to wipe the magnet free of remaining wax with a tissue or soft cloth.
Caution: The hot wax should not be allowed to come into direct contact with the magnet, as the magnet will lose some of its magnetic force from the heat (at approx. 100 °C).
Addition by supermagnete: You can also remove the filings from the magnet with an adhesive tape.

How do I remove iron filings from my magnets?

Iron filings are the simplest material to use to make magnetic fields visible. See the additional photos.
We recommend that you place the magnet or magnets under a glass pane or at least a piece of paper and that you then sprinkle the filings on top of it. This way, the filings can be easily separated from the magnets. Attention: Don't rub your eyes while filings are on your fingers.
