A very well designed knife board
I find magnetic knife boards and knife blocks very impressive and they are definitely an eye-catcher in the kitchen. Unfortunately, the boards and blocks that you can purchase have two problems: Most are too small and very expensive. That's why I decided to design and build such a knife board myself. Another plus is that you can hang it up on the wall, which saves space on top of it.
The board measures 500 x 250 mm. Every 5 cm I inserted a magnet, which makes 50 magnets with 5 rows and 10 holes each. As recommended on supermagnete.de I used S-15-08-N disc magnets. I simulated their adhesive force below.
Material needed:
- 1 beechwood board 500 x 250 x 27 mm
- 1 beechwood board 350 x 150 x 18 mm
- 2 beechwood borders 1 m 13 x 13 mm
- 2 centre bits Ø 15 mm
- Sand paper
- Wood glue
- Linseed oil
- 50 disc magnets S-15-08-N
Then I glued the magnets in the holes.
I screwed and glued the wooden borders for the mounting on the main board. The holding board (which will be screwed on the wall later) must fit perfectly into the created frame. When you mount the board on the wall later, the main board will be fastened on the holding board sideways through the frame with screws.
The completed knife board with knives on it looks pretty good. I am very happy with the result of my project. The knives stay securely on the board, but can be removed with not much effort.
