Possible applications for magnetic boards

Magnetic boards are ideal for organising information and displaying photos and other mementoes. Magnetic boards made of steel can also hold lightweight items when used in conjunction with hooks and clips. They are versatile solutions for homes and workplaces. Below, we provide inspiration on the various ways in which magnetic boards can be utilised:

Organise notes and information
Use your magnetic board as a memo board and attach important documents. This way, they are always within view, and you can swap them out or rearrange them as needed. A magnetic board in the kitchen, for example, can serve as a central hub for shopping lists, recipes or meal plans. In an office or home office, a magnetic noticeboard provides space for to-do lists, appointments and invoices.

Display photos, drawings and mementoes
Magnetic boards also make excellent decorative noticeboards for displaying photos, children’s drawings, postcards, invitations, leaflets and other mementoes. On magnetic boards made of sheet steel, you can also showcase your holiday souvenir magnets in style. This is especially handy if you don’t have enough space left on your fridge or if its surface isn't suitable for magnets.

Keep keys and small items neatly organised
Adding decorative magnetic hooks and magnetic clips to steel sheet magnetic boards allows you to create a custom DIY key rack in no time.
In the kitchen, use magnetic hooks on a steel magnetic board to hang tea towels or lightweight cooking utensils, for example. Thanks to self-adhesive magnetic sheet, even spice jars can find their place on the board. Simply apply the self-adhesive sheet to the jars, and they will stick to the board. You can find pictures and further inspiration for this DIY project in our customer application Magnetic spice rack.

Combine several magnetic boards to create a large magnetic wall
If you need a larger surface area for magnets, mount several magnetic boards next to each other to create a bespoke magnetic wall that suits your needs. For example, you can arrange the magnetic boards evenly side by side or in a staggered pattern. Colourful magnetic boards made of glass add a decorative touch to the room.

Tips for using magnetic boards

• Don’t let the magnets collide: When using neodymium magnets on the board, make sure they are not placed too close to one another. Otherwise, they may collide and shatter.
• Don’t slide the magnets directly across the board: Do not drag magnets back and forth across the surface of powder-coated magnetic boards, magnetic glass boards or slate magnetic boards, as this may cause scratches on the board.
• Use strong magnets for magnetic glass boards and slate boards: Magnets can only achieve a fraction of their strength on magnetic glass boards and magnetic boards made of slate. You can find more information on this in the FAQ Which magnets are suitable for magnetic glass boards?.

Frequently asked questions about magnetic boards

Can you write on magnetic boards?

You can write on the magnetic glass boards from the supermagnete online shop using whiteboard markers. However, the magnetic boards made of sheet steel or slate cannot be written on with pens.

Which magnets are suitable for magnetic glass boards and slate boards?

As the magnets can only achieve a fraction of their adhesive force through the glass or slate panel, you will need strong magnets for magnetic glass boards and slate boards. Neodymium magnets with an adhesive force of around 1 kg or more are particularly suitable, as are office magnets specifically designed for magnetic glass boards. Ferrite magnets and pot magnets, on the other hand, will not stick.

Is a magnetic board magnetic in itself?

No. A magnetic board simply serves as a ferromagnetic surface to which magnets can adhere. Terms such as 'magnetic board', 'magnetic noticeboard' or 'magnet board' are therefore not entirely accurate. They create the impression that the boards themselves have magnetic properties – and thus should stick, for example, to steel shelves. However, this is not the case. Nevertheless, as the term 'magnetic board' is widely accepted, we use it for our products as well.
