How are the magnets magnetised? Where are the poles?

Neodymium magnets: Standard magnetisation

Practically all our neodymium magnets are magnetised through the width (=height). There are a few exceptions, which are specially noted in the article descriptions.
This means: For block magnets, the poles are normally on the largest surface areas.
For the disc magnets and rod magnets the poles are on the circular area. This is also called "axially" magnetised.
The ring magnets are - unless otherwise noted - also axially magnetised.
The poles lie on 2 opposite surface areas of the cube magnets.
The sphere magnets have 2 opposite poles, much like the globe.

Radial magnetisation (ring magnets)

We do not offer radially magnetised ring magnets. It is technically very difficult and also expensive to produce radially magnetised rings. That is why most producers do not offer them.
Often, radially magnetised rings are build with individual radially magnetised ring segments, which we do not carry either. We only offer axially and diametrically magnetised neodymium ring magnets and axially magnetised ferrite ring magnets.

Ferrite magnets

Our ferrite magnets are solely magnetised through the width (=height).

Magnetic tapes and sheets: lamellar

With magnetic tapes and sheets the direction of magnetisation changes every few millimetres, so the north and south poles are laid out in stripes and alternate in close sequence. This leads to an increased adhesive force at direct contact with ferromagnetic surfaces.

Magnetic tape and sheet made of strontium ferrite

With the magnetic tape made of strontium ferrite, the lamellar magnetisation runs parallel to the tape length. The flux detector visualises this.
